PCTC CELEBRATES CHRISTMAS
Led by President Grace Santos Ocampo, highly spirited members and guests of the Philippines Canada Trade Council crowded Java Jazz Café and Bistro on November 28, 2008 to celebrate its annual Christmas Party with a sumptuous buffet of mouth watering Filipino foods and dessert. The live band provided the backdrop for hours of singing and dancing as the bistro’s owner herself, Salve, rendered excellent vocals much to the amusement of everyone.
Despite the pouring rain, the guest speaker, Hon. Consul General Ruth Morales Prado inspired the crowd with her courage to come back speech about her bout with cancer and her brave struggle to overcome. She said she is now cancer free and about and ready to attend to the needs of the Filipino community which she heads. She expressed her gratitude to the council for its support and cooperation and reiterated her promise of support and cooperation as well. |

Dr Ironside Special Presentation to PCTC and members
The global financial crisis takes center stage as Dr. Robert Ironside delivered a thought provoking presentation on the economic slow down on February 25, 2009, at a Bank of Montreal sponsored Philippines Canada Trade Council networking event.
Held at the Golden Swan Restaurant along Victoria Drive in Vancouver, members and guests lauded his well rounded insight on the existing economy and the dire strait of the financial industry. Dr. Ironide, an expert on global finance, ABD, Ph.D , and a noted finance professor, lecturer, and trainer, noted the sequence of events that caused the fall out which dated back more than a decade and what developments could possibly occur as governments and central bankers all over the world try to stabilize and correct the situation.
Attendees, who braved the slippery conditions of the road due to the snow which blanketed the lower mainland the whole afternoon, engaged the financial guru into a lively discussion on the expectations and the forces that can propel the economy back on the tracks.
Dr. Robert Ironside was introduced by PCTC Director, Bill Hogg, and was welcomed heartily by the Council led by its President, Grace Santos Ocampo.
It takes a professional to lighten up the grey issues on the financial crisis, and that’s how everybody felt, knowing that after the event, they are more armed to tackle the most pressing demands of the times on their bankbooks.
